Borno State has four universities which are owned by the state government, federal government and private bodies.

Private.

• Al-Ansar University, Maiduguri, Borno

Federal.

• Nigerian Army University Biu(NAUB)(located at Gombe Rd, Biu in Borno State, Nigeria and was established in 2018)
• University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID)(located at Bama Road Maiduguri in Borno State, Nigeria and established in 1975)

State.

• Bornu State University, Maiduguri(BOSU)(located at Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria and was established in 2016)
